Mark Alexander Shalaby
General counsel | Wind Tre
How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
The core tenant of managing legal activities and strategy is to view lawyers as being an integral part of the overall business. No bright-line is drawn between legal and non-legal activities and, even more importantly, responsibilities. The team is oriented to working laterally, finding solutions and having an openness to innovation.
What are the major cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?
Acquisition of network business of a major industry player. Launching of new energy and insurance business lines that are key to transforming Wind Tre into a multiservice provider.
How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?
The legal department is the most diverse in Wind Tre. All members, irrespective of gender, seniority or otherwise, are treated as fellow professionals and delegated with full title to work in their respective areas.
In your opinion, what are the main trends that are salient in your country currently?
Italy is witnessing a period of growing investor confidence but still faces core structural challenges in transitioning away from a highly regulated system that is not well-adapted to rapid transformations in technology and business.
