General manager | BBO Bebidas Bolivianas
How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
I always choose to focus on the search for alternative solutions, working hard with the teams from other areas. I approach all topics with proactivity and empathy, especially with my work team.
What are the main cases or transactions that you have been involved in recently?
I have been involved in opening a bank account abroad, recently closing brand licensing contracts for Schneider beer, participating diligently in boards of directors and shareholder meetings.
What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel/in house counsel teams contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?
Currently, the role of legal advisor plays an extremely important role since it becomes a strategic ally for the development of the business. Lately, we have adopted management coordination meetings as a working mechanism in which the most relevant topics within the company are covered in order to discuss alternative solutions for each case.
How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?
We give a high priority to inclusion in the team, mainly focused on giving opportunity to the female role within the company with a growing percentage year after year of inclusion of women on the payroll.
What role does the legal department play in promoting and ensuring corporate social responsibility in your organisation?
The legal department plays a fundamental role in promoting and ensuring corporate social responsibility in our organization through several key functions such as ensuring regulatory compliance; support and advice in making responsible, safe and ethical decisions; timely risk management; survey and review of procedures in addition to their respective reinforcement for compliance with them, among others.
What do you see as the major legal challenges for businesses in Bolivia over the next five years, and how are you preparing to address them?
I consider that the main legal challenges for companies in Bolivia during the next five years will be the complex economic context; the strengthening regulatory compliance as is customary but with greater internal rigor and teamwork to guarantee success from all the challenges and budgets set by the company.
