How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

At Essity, our legal strategy is deeply integrated with the broader business strategy. As VP Legal for Consumer Goods Americas, I prioritise proactive risk assessment, scenario planning, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure legal agility and business continuity. We embed legal foresight into crisis management frameworks, enabling swift, compliant decision-making that supports operational resilience. By aligning legal responses with commercial priorities – uch as supply chain continuity, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder communication – e help safeguard the company’s reputation and long-term value.

What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?

Sustainability is a core pillar of Essity’s business model. The company has taken significant steps to integrate sustainable practices into product innovation, packaging, sourcing, and operations. As General Counsel, my role extends beyond compliance – want to be taken as a strategic advisor to ensure that sustainability goals are embedded in contracts, supplier relationships, and governance structures. We work closely with relevant teams to ensure transparency in reporting and to mitigate legal risks associated with environmental and social impact.

How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?

Diversity and inclusion are essential to Essity. Within the Legal department, we actively foster an inclusive culture through recruitment practices that prioritise diverse talent, mentorship programs, and continuous education on unconscious bias and inclusive leadership. We’ve implemented initiatives to ensure that every team member feels valued and empowered. As a leader, I promote equity not only within our team but also in how we engage with external counsel and partners, ensuring that our values are reflected across all legal touchpoints.
