My approach is centered around being closely aligned with our business units, offering proactive support and maintaining real-time awareness of legal developments and emerging regulations. Being well-informed and agile enables me to provide timely, strategic legal advice that directly supports the company’s decision-making in critical moments.

During periods of instability, such as shifts in regulatory frameworks or socio-political environments, we prioritise transparent internal communication, business continuity planning, and scenario-based legal risk analysis. This has allowed us to remain resilient, compliant, and forward-thinking, especially in high-growth contexts. I see our legal function not as a gatekeeper, but as a business enabler, as a strategic partner that helps bridge the gap between operational goals and legal soundness.

What are the major cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?

I have been deeply involved in advising on the legal aspects of our significant workforce expansion, supporting MercadoLibre’s growth to over 100,000 employees across the region. This required a coordinated legal strategy focused on labour law compliance, employment policy harmonisation, and talent enablement initiatives aligned with our regional footprint.

In parallel, I participated in the International Labour Organisation (ILO) global convention, contributing insights from a Latin American tech company perspective. This engagement has further strengthened our commitment to responsible labour practices and international legal collaboration.

What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?

Sustainability at MercadoLibre is embedded in our DNA, from our culture and values to our use of artificial intelligence and digital tools to streamline internal processes. As legal counsel, my role is to support and accelerate these initiatives, acting as a bridge that helps translate innovation into compliant and scalable solutions.

By working cross-functionally with other teams, I ensure that sustainability strategies are not just visionary, but also feasible and legally sound. Our legal department is deeply integrated into every major initiative, embodying our mission to be true business enablers.
