How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
To support business continuity during periods of instability or crisis, legal management must be approached from a preventive rather than a reactive perspective. This involves mapping risks, strengthening compliance and reporting mechanisms, and ensuring agile communication with corporate areas of the business so they can participate in timely decision-making.
I believe that, in this way, the legal team can become strategic business partners, contributing not only through compliance and knowledge of the rules but also through an understanding of the organisation’s priorities and strategies. Instead of being viewed in isolation or as an area solely for consultation and support, legal management should be seen as part of the wider business.
What are the major cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?
One of the most notable projects I recently participated in was implementing Veeva Events, a platform that centralizes event management and interactions with healthcare professionals.
Through this project, we achieved regulatory compliance in multiple countries, optimised internal processes, and enhanced accountability and transparency. Veeva Events represents a step forward in the digitization of Knight’s processes and demonstrates the company’s commitment to ensuring ethical and transparent compliance in each of our interactions with key players in the healthcare system.
The project’s success reaffirms the legal department’s role as a strategic ally in business transformation!
What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?
I believe the technologies that will have the greatest impact on legal management are artificial intelligence, automation, and data analytics. These technologies can be used to review contracts, map obligations, and research case law, among other things.
To stay up to date, I participate in legal tech forums and seek out academic training courses and workshops. A key aspect is also the practical application of these tools in projects that add value to the organisation, allowing more time to be devoted to the company’s strategic focus rather than day-to-day tasks.
In your opinion, what are the main trends that are salient in your country currently?
Legal trends in Latin America are influenced by a changing political environment that is driving reforms in labor, taxes, health, and sustainability. Added to this are increasingly strict compliance and data protection regulations, as well as the ongoing shift toward digitalisation.
These factors require us to take on a much more strategic role as leaders in the legal field, supporting our companies in managing the risks arising from constant regulatory changes and political uncertainty.
