How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
Firstly, it is essential to thoroughly comprehend the crisis and its surrounding environment, whether macroeconomic or social, and to identify the key stakeholders in the sector beyond the clients. With this understanding, and by aligning efforts, resources, and time with business partners, it becomes feasible to implement specific proactive claim management actions, engage specialised consultancy services, and propose legal mechanisms that facilitate navigating complex business scenarios.
In your opinion, what are the main trends that are salient in your country currently (these can be legal, political, economy or business-based)?
Colombia is facing serious and significant challenges at the political and macroeconomic levels. In addition to the challenges that pension and labour reform have brought for companies, I highlight the recent bill seeking to regulate Artificial Intelligence, aiming to promote its ethical, responsible, competitive, and innovative development. The bill seeks to establish a secure legal framework for technological development without creating unnecessary administrative burdens for companies, especially startups. Finally, in the health sector, the Government has been implementing a health reform through administrative interventions and decrees with the aim of dismantling the insurance model.
How do you prioritize diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?
As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I have used my voice as a platform to prevent discrimination and to reinforce the message that, beyond sexual orientation, we must understand and incorporate robust Diversity and Inclusion policies. Diversity in companies, when managed effectively, increases competitiveness by fostering innovation, improving decision-making, and expanding market reach. Diverse teams bring different perspectives and experiences, which can lead to more creative solutions and a better understanding of the needs of a diverse customer base.
