How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?  

In my opinion, managing legal aspects in times of instability or crisis requires a strategic, agile approach aligned with business objectives, with a focus on resilience and organisational continuity. 

It is essential to identify legal risks associated with crisis scenarios in advance, as well as develop well-aligned contingency plans. In this context, it is suggested that a multidisciplinary crisis committee be created, with active participation from the legal team and the company’s strategic areas, to ensure quick, coordinated and effective decisions. In addition, defining action protocols with pre-established flows in conjunction with these strategic areas for emergency situations is also important to ensure consistent and timely responses to the organisation. 

What are the major cases or transactions you have been involved in recently? 

In the organisation where I work, as it is a large business group, I have the privilege of being constantly challenged in legal aspects. Naturally, respecting my commitment to professional secrecy, I would highlight the judicial recovery process, in which I participated from the beginning and from this challenge I quickly sought to qualify myself, which I can say was a wise decision and gave me a unique experience. 

What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?  

Grupo Petrópolis has consolidated its initiatives and projects focused on ESG through the Bem GP program, which organises these actions based on three fundamental pillars: Environmental, Social and Governance. The program reflects the company’s commitment to building a sustainable future, promoting positive impacts for both society and the environment. It is important to highlight that in recent years, the role of the legal department within the ESG agenda has evolved significantly, becoming a key element, especially in the Governance axis. Our technical training and strategic vision give us a natural capacity to contribute, strengthening ethical, transparent and responsible practices within the organisation. 

What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?   

Emerging technologies are profoundly transforming legal practice, requiring constant adaptation to increase efficiency, mitigate risks and generate strategic value for businesses. Among the most impactful innovations, I highlight those that have been reshaping the way we operate, make decisions and deliver results. 

I understand that the technologies with the greatest impact on the legal profession are those that allow for the automation of routines, prediction of results to estimate the chances of success in litigation, use of platforms as a source of data that can contribute to the definition of strategy by legal professionals who will benefit from the freeing up of time by automating repetitive routines, gaining more time for strategic analysis. 

To keep up with this evolution, I keep up to date through ongoing studies, participation in specialized events, networking with professionals in the field and monitoring publications and global trends in technology and law. This proactive stance is essential to integrate technological solutions in an intelligent and strategic way into legal practice.
