Career Biography

Ingvild Erdal is a highly accomplished IP lawyer with over 17 years of experience spanning diverse practices and industries across Norway. Her career encompasses key legal IP positions within governmental registration authorities, private practice, and in-house roles within significant Norwegian companies.

After some years as a legal counsel in the financial industry, Ms. Erdal initiated her IP career at the Norwegian Industrial Property Office within the Trademark Department. Following this, she served as an attorney at Bull & Co law firm for some, an IP boutique where she gained a holistic understanding of IP, including registered rights, contractual IP matters, and related fields such as corporate law, marketing, and strategy.

In 2012, Ms. Erdal transitioned to her first in-house role as Legal Counsel IP (later General Counsel IP) at Stokke. Here, she played a crucial role in protecting their unique products, notably focusing on securing copyright protection for the iconic Tripp Trapp chair through numerous IP litigations, and successfully handling litigation against Xplory counterfeits in China.

She later joined the legal team at TINE SA in 2018 as Group Legal Counsel, managing IP matters, including brand management, IP contracts, and IP strategy. Her time in the large organisation emphasised the critical importance of strategic alignment in IP management to ensure cohesive company efforts.

In 2021, Ms. Erdal took on the role of Lead IP Counsel at reMarkable, a high-growth Norwegian technology company with a strong focus on IP. She currently holds the position of VP Legal, Head of IP. Her primary responsibilities include negotiating essential IP and direct contracts, managing the IP portfolio, enforcing IP rights, developing the internal governance structure and establishing strategic IP direction with executive management.

Ms. Erdal is particularly effective in an in-house setting, where she can leverage her comprehensive skill set to translate complex legal requirements into practical, understandable business measures. Her passion lies within the intersection of law and innovation, and strategically leveraging IP to capture valuable creative and innovative work in the best interest of the companies she works for.
