What are the most significant cases and transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

I am a lawyer specialising in labour and employment law. I have advised and supported my client in many cases related to the mass termination of employment contracts, which affected nearly 200 employees, due to restructuring as well as an international economic slowdown. In addition, I also advise and support clients on other labour and employment issues, for example employment contracts, unilateral termination of labour contracts, and disciplinary actions.

Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

Our team only has two members, so it does not cost much to run. To support our internal business units, our legal team collaborated with our IT team to build a legal Q&A forum which was published on an internal platform. Our business units can now easily access and seek answers to their questions. This saves considerable time for both our legal team and our business units.

How do you see the general counsel role evolving in Vietnam over the next five-ten years?

The role of the counsel is as important as always! In the coming years, in-house counsel will not only serve as a legal entity but also a business partner! Legal solutions cannot be separated from business needs and business solutions.

What are some of the main trends impacting your industry in Vietnam?

In the flat world, in-house lawyers not only need to study the local laws, but they also need to research regional and even global laws.
