Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

One notable example involves the implementation of a standardised legal due diligence (DD) checklist and a “project legal” milestones report. This initiative utilised documents provided by target entities target entities when strategising engagement with new projects, whether they be new-built transaction or acquisition transaction. As the number of SkyX Solar’s Greenfield projects are plentiful, the aforementioned materials help us to minimise legal expenses and facilitate corresponding works to utilise our limited resources and time.

How do you see the general counsel role evolving in Vietnam over the next five-ten years?

In-house counsel will step up and take an important position within each organisation. Vietnam’s economy is under recovery process, and the government’s attractive policies for FDI’s investments are growing. This will all lead to enterprises being more concerned about regulatory aspects while carrying out their business in Vietnam. Having a general counsel is similar to having “a pair of regulatory eyes” to watch over holding and operation matters for all entities within the organisation, which minimises and mitigates organisational unexpected risks that could tremendously affect entities’ business.

What are some of the main trends impacting your industry in Vietnam?

SkyX Solar is a professional and leading rooftop solar developer and distributed energy solutions provider for the commercial and industrial customers in Vietnam.

As the whole world is changing, more and more nations are being concerned about the environment, which means that demand for natural and fossil fuels must be reduced in order to protect the resources, and more environmentally friendly sources, such as renewable energy and solar power, are preferable. The aforementioned are significant because the Prime Minister of SCR Vietnam recently issued Decision No 500/QD-TTg dated 15 May 2023, approving the National Electricity Development Planning of 2021 – 2030 and Vision for 2050, which encourages renewable energy development, and this will drive not only our business but the entire renewable energy sector.
