Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?  

We have implemented a series of automated drafted formats that are self-produced by technical contract managers, whom we have trained in legal and contractual matters in order to make interaction with the legal department more agile and dynamic. This has brought us a substantial improvement in the response times of our department and a greater involvement of contract managers. 

What are some of the main trends impacting the industry sector you work in in Uruguay? 

Some of the main trends impacting the construction and engineering sector in Uruguay are the focus on sustainable construction, the increasing investment in infrastructure development and an attractive real estate market for both domestic and foreign investors. 

Besides, Uruguay is consolidating the adoption of modern technologies like Building Information Modeling (BIM), virtual reality, drones, and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions to improve project management, enhance safety, and increase efficiency, and our company is leading the development of many of these technologies. 

Do you use any ‘legal tech’ products, and if so, for which areas of your work do you find them most useful?  

Due to our expansion in the United States with our consulting services, we have implemented some tools to standardise the drafting and execution of contracts and other legal documents. 

We have also adopted tools designed to facilitate tasks related to compliance, since our industry is subject to various regulations and compliance standards, both domestically and internationally, and staying up to date with these requirements is crucial for businesses operating in the sector. 

Likewise, we are exploring some other tools based on artificial intelligence to make technical discovery in claims management more efficient. 

We believe that legal tech trends and tools present both opportunities and challenges. It is essential for in-house legal departments to keep a close eye on these developments in order to enhance added value to the business and stay competitive.
