Executive vice president and general counsel
A highly respected healthcare legal mind, Linda Friedman, executive vice president and general counsel at Astellas, has over 30 years of experience to lead the global legal affairs for the Japanese headquartered company. Based in the US, but with global responsibility, Friedman supervises the regional legal teams with over 100 lawyers under her responsibility globally. She has been with Astellas since 1993, joining Fujisawa, which merged with Yamanouchi in 2005 to create Astellas. With prior experience in private practice, she is the first woman and first lawyer on the executive committee of the company at the Japanese headquarters. Friedman highlights her enthusiasm and talent at bringing together top teams to create ‘the legal team for the next evolution of the company and further alignment and integration with business as it grows.’ Having served as general counsel of the Americas region and other senior positions, she has great experience in legal management as well as practical skill in pharmaceutical law. She has led the company through its recent growth and international development and as she explains, has ‘align[ed] [the] legal function to [the] business- creating an agile, nimble and responsive team that flexes when the company flexes, creating development opportunities for team members’.
