Leader of the company’s legal and compliance group and a member of its global executive committee, Christopher J. Meade is BlackRock’s general counsel and chief legal officer. He has been operating at the very top of the legal profession for a number of years, and was among the more prominent lawyers in the country as general counsel of the US Department of the Treasury for approximately five years until 2016. This was during a key and extremely eventful period for the department. Prior to this he was a partner with Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, during the course of which he argued four cases before the US Supreme Court, successfully displaying his expertise in one of the highest-pressure situations imaginable.
