PPL Corporation recently made headlines around the world when it convinced the Supreme Court to overturn a decision banning its use of foreign tax credits against the UK “windfall tax” law. It was Robert Grey’s second Supreme Court victory in as many years; in 2012, PPL Montana avoided paying millions in rent for the use of riverbeds, following a successful appeal by the company. Sandy Rizzo, of Bracewell & Giuliani says Grey’s shepherding of these cases was key, and notes, ‘getting the Supreme Court to take a case in and of itself is no small accomplishment. Grey did it twice and achieved a successful result each time’. Grey is clearly an influential member of PPL, having worked there since 1995. During this time his other achievements include overseeing a number of successful acquisitions and the expansion of its UK platform.
