When Hertz acquired Dollar Thrifty recently, it was the culmination of a long-fought battle of which Jeffrey Zimmerman was a key player. The transaction was littered with complexities; two different merger agreements, two tender offers, a mandated divestiture of the company’s Advantage brand (at the FTC’s insistence), and a shareholder vote that was defeated by Avis’ efforts. Zimmerman’s input and guidance was required every step of the way. John Allen of Debevoise & Plimpton LLP comments: ‘to have successfully managed that transaction, while at the same time performing all the regular demands of his role as general counsel of a major international public company was a tour de force’. Zimmerman also sits on the group’s executive committee, contributing to the overall running of the business.
