Bill Daly is in the enviable position of being able to combine his passion – sport – with his day job. He also happens to be one of the most influential figures in the industry, advising all the hockey clubs and their staff on all legal issues, and coordinating litigation. Additional duties include administering League-sponsored pension plans and League-wide insurance programs, and monitoring legislation for potential impact on the business. His role goes well beyond just legal – he oversees the operations side of NHL International, which involves managing the NHL’s relationship with the international hockey community. In the past, this role saw him act as caretaker for the NHL’s successful involvement in the 2002 Winter Olympic Games; he even brokered the deal to facilitate its participation. And when the NHL reached a marketing and branding agreement with the Salt Lake Organizing Committee – the first of its kind between a professional sports league and an Olympic Organizing committee – Daly played a leading role.
