Alfred Pollard displayed ‘boldness and vision in partnering with outside counsel to launch what may be the largest collection of securities cases in history’, opines Peter Calamari of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP. He’s referring to Pollard’s pursuit of regulators in the aftermath of the housing crisis, in which hundreds of defendants are facing eighteen separate federal securities actions. By instructing outside trial counsel with deep structured finance expertise, Calamari says the FHFA is ‘signalling that it is trial-ready and will not be out-gunned by large financial institutions. Pollard has set a new benchmark for how the government protects the interests of taxpayers’. Pollard’s level of responsibility is significant; he oversees regulatory matters affecting Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the 12 Federal Home Loan Banks, as all are government sponsored enterprises. Yet he also finds time to serve on the President’s Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force, and the US Department of Justice’s bank fraud and mortgage fraud working groups.
