Shirley is the Group General Counsel at Hiscox. She has over 25 years’ experience in the financial services industry at companies including AXA, Capita and WTW which followed her time in private practice. Shirley is known for her passion for the insurance industry and the vital role it plays, her collegiate and calm approach to a broad range of corporate matters and her ability to build and lead teams though change.

Beyond your legal role, is there a cause or initiative you are especially passionate about?

I am passionate about social mobility in all its forms.  Being the first in my family to go to university and benefit from the opportunities of tertiary education, I believe in the power of education to promote growth for individuals and the economy. I have over the years been involved in a number of initiatives from being a school governor at a pupil referral unit to mentoring a state sector vice principal though the Inspiration for All programme sponsored by the London & International Insurance Brokers Association.
