Career Biography

A highly accomplished senior executive, lawyer and governance leader with more than 30 years’ experience in financial markets, regulation, corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions, and global business leadership. As group general counsel and Executive Committee member of London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), Catherine Johnson leads a global legal and compliance function of more than 200 professionals, providing strategic counsel to the CEO, Board and senior leadership team across one of the world’s leading financial markets infrastructure and data businesses.

Recognised for combining strong commercial judgement with strategic vision, Catherine has played a pivotal role in shaping LSEG’s growth and transformation, including leading the legal and regulatory planning, negotiation and execution of the US$27 billion acquisition of Refinitiv, one of the largest transactions in the sector. Throughout her career she has been instrumental in delivering complex M&A transactions, managing regulatory relationships, guiding corporate governance frameworks and supporting major strategic initiatives across global markets.

Alongside her executive responsibilities, Catherine holds a number of significant board and governance roles, including Chair of FTSE International Limited, Director of Tradeweb Markets Inc. and Director of LCH Limited. She is widely respected for her expertise in governance, regulation, risk management and stakeholder engagement across highly regulated international businesses.
