First, can you please give us an idea of the sort of work your team has done recently (cases, transactions, projects)?

My team and I provide legal support to Kazanci Holding and its subsidiaries. Aksa Energy operates in five countries, and following its successful investments in Africa, it diversified its portfolio geographically with Tashkent and Bukhara natural gas combined cycle power plants. My team has supported the project to construct a 240 MW CCGT power plant in Tashkent A, 230 MW CCGT power plant in Tashkent B, and 270 MW CCGT power plant in Bukhara. Aksa Power Generation (our subsidiary) manufactures gasoline, diesel, natural gas, marine generating sets, lighting towers, and hardware. It has three manufacturing facilities in Çerkezköy, China, and the US. My team has supported the project of a new factory for Aksa Power Generation in Çerkezköy (60.000 m² of total space), where Aksa Power Generation will triple its production capacity.

Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?

Technology helps lawyers carry out legal work more efficiently, tackling regulatory and compliance burdens more effectively. Digital tools assist with document automation, legal research, legal education, online dispute resolution, and E-discovery. While these devices simplify the lawyers’ work, they can become extremely dangerous; individuals will have direct access to legal documents without the aid of lawyers, which could result in misinterpretation of legal regulations.

Does the team use any “legal tech” products, and do you find them a helpful management device?

We are currently using legal tech products such as contract management to support our day-to-day tasks. We provide legal services through a portal where employees can directly make their legal requests online. The system keeps all the legal requests in its database so that all team members can access records and information.
