For over 60 years, American multinational conglomerate General Electric (GE) has operated in Turkey through its subsidiary General Electric Türkiye. With activities in a number of sectors including aviation, healthcare, transport, lighting, energy, oil and gas, the company’s business operations are enough to test even the most highly-skilled lawyers. Executive counsel Azra Oguz Çakıl has led the legal function since 2011, building a team of lawyers that is known throughout Turkey for their ability to work closely with the business and contribute to some of its most important deals. Recent examples include the team’s work on an agreement to supply 16 power transformers to Karadeniz Energy Group’s affiliate Karpowership, which operates seagoing portable power supply units. The team was also closely involved in executing an agreement for GE to supply wind turbines for a 70 MW power plant near Izmir, Turkey.
