The Acer Computer legal team is made up of seven lawyers in total who support the company in its aims of retaining its leading reputation as a multinational hardware and electronics corporation. The legal team comes from five different cultural backgrounds covering eight languages and the most important markets in EMEA. ‘One of the keys to working successfully and efficiently is that we create an environment of sharing – sharing experiences, expertise and knowledge without undue rivalry and competition getting in the way’, explains EMEA general counsel Guido Wennemer. This mentality is reflected in the structure of the team in that the department is not organised in defined working fields and prefers to keep their areas of expertise broad in order to enable them to get to learn the business processes comprehensively. ‘The team is not organised in rigid working fields, i.e. whilst one team member may have special expertise in a certain area, it does not mean he will be working only in that field of expertise. Rather we try and have the individual members work in as many different fields as possible to enable them to see and get to learn the company as a whole. The goal is that each legal counsel is a full service counsel’, says Wennemer.
