STOXX, a globally integrated index provider, has a Swiss legal department of four, which was built by head of legal, Michael Hyzik. The team support a global sales force with regards to intellectual and licensing matters, contracts, implementing changes in line with industry-specific regulations and helping to lobby law makers and regulatory bodies. The team has also succeeded in achieving legal protection for financial indices through a combination of intellectual property and contractual provisions. They have been the legal minds behind a consistent and comprehensive licensing framework across three licensors based in Switzerland and Germany. They are currently tasked with creating a new compliance structure for STOXX, which Hyzik says ensures the integrity of the team’s benchmarks. STOXX calculates more than 7,500 indices and in addition acts as the marketing agent for the indices of Deutsche Börse. The team have assisted in STOXX’s monumental growth in becoming one of the most renowned global indexes.
