About

Josh McMorrow joined Weatherford International in 2014, one of the largest global oilfield service providers with approximately 28,000 employees present in 80+ countries. McMorrow joined during a pivotal year in the oilfield services business, when the price of oil started to drop from US$110 a barrel to US$30 a barrel in late 2015. Reflecting on this time, McMorrow says, ‘leading a legal team during a time of crisis is difficult but it also presents opportunities to find ways to do things more efficiently and to focus on what adds the most value’. In 2015, he was asked to take on the additional role of global head of litigation and was tasked with resolving some of the most pressing issues that Weatherford had at the time, including a securities class action related to tax restatements from the 2012 time period, and a related investigation by the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Eventually in 2016, he was asked to consider a move to the global headquarters in Baar, Switzerland to oversee the Europe, Africa, Caspian and Russia regions. He has since introduced and encouraged the use of data and technology to inform decision-making and drive efficiency. An example is his work in conjunction with the IT team to create an iPhone app called ContractOne, which allows his sales colleagues to enter the name of a customer and pull up a quick summary of the contract, something which has dramatically improved time and cost, while allowing the sales team to focus on other opportunities to increase revenue. Prior to his time at Weatherford, in 2012, McMorrow was recruited by PSC, a private US equity-owned energy services business, to become senior vice president and general counsel, ‘It was a great opportunity to build a legal team and control how I would want legal services to be delivered in a company of 3,000 people’, he says.
