Serving as the general counsel of Berenberg Bank (Schweiz) for eight years, Gianni Porpiglia has used his breadth of experience and versatility to manage various aspects and challenges faced by a private bank in today’s climate. His range of tasks includes advising the different business units, as well as dealing with the increasing complexity of regulatory issues. Besides pursuing his approach of supporting his team in their activities and goals on a self-reliant basis, he also recognises the importance of strengthening and developing relations with other experts in the field of private banking as well as financial services while standing as a board member of the Swiss Association of Compliance Officers (SACO) since 2011. Moreover, he supervises students as an expert for their practice-oriented thesis. Navigating his team through challenging projects, Porpiglia strongly supports his colleagues in thinking outside the box in order to provide a holistic, solution driven approach. He meets new challenges, such as implementing the organisational and contractual basis for a new Art Consult unit within the bank, by continually diversifying his in-depth specialisation. During the implementation, Porpiglia pursues a business-oriented, risk-based approach with the objective to integrate the needs of the different parties, while always bearing in mind the overall picture.
