About

In 2017 Atlas Copco, the Swedish leading provider of sustainable productivity solutions, announced its plans to split its group into two separate companies. Atlas Copco is the business that focuses on industrial customers, and the other – Epiroc – is engaged with mining and civil engineering customers. With the whirlwind of activity surrounding this procedure as well as identifying and executing business strategy into the future – the company plans to have both companies listed on the Nasdaq Stockholm stock exchange – each now distinct company requires specialist legal advice that is comprehensive, pragmatic and grounded in an intimate knowledge of the company’s activities. Jörgen Ekelöw, Epiroc’s senior vice president and general counsel, is therefore particularly valuable in his position of leading legal and corporate support within the business at this time. Ekelöw has enjoyed a career that has seen him spend several decades within not only the Atlas Copco group, but in other giants of Swedish business. Beginning his in-house legal career as a corporate counsel for Atlas Copco in 1987, he subsequently held a variety of roles in the company’s internal legal department including as general counsel for North America as well as vice president Sweden holding. Punctuated by spells at Autoliv and Skanska, where during his time at the latter he held the general counsel role at Skanska Sverige for eight years, Ekelöw returned to Atlas Copco in 2010 as assistant general counsel. Having his deep experience and capability well-recognised within the company, Ekelow undertook roles as general counsel for group operations as well as general counsel for M&A and projects, being entrusted to navigate not only legal challenges but high-level corporate ones too. All this culminated with the appointment to his current position in October 2017, in which he will be crucial to ensuring that Epiroc successfully navigates new hurdles and challenges in its new form.
