Construction giant M+W Group has a wealth of opportunities in the rapidly growing Asia Pacific regional economy, and relies on a talented core of in-house lawyers to safeguard its opportunities there. Alexander Moray leads the team as general counsel for Asia Pacific – notably supported by associate general counsel for Asia Pacific Tian Kai Lin – with Moray largely reforming the team over the past two years in response to a major restructure. In terms of transactions, Moray explains that the team has ‘concluded a number of complex contracts for M+W to design and build several landmark semiconductor fabrication facilities for a few confidential clients across the Asia Pacific region, and several of these contracts are for over US$1bn each’. He explains the team’s work ethic as ‘relentless’, adding: ‘This is not something that we have formally developed – rather, it is a reflection of the substantial demands of the company and the industry, the extremely dedicated personalities in our team, and the willingness to support our commercial teams with energy, precision and commitment’. The M+W legal team is a perfect match for the company it supports, with Moray explaining that the company’s ‘commercial teams are leaders in their field and on a constant search for opportunities’. He sees the team’s role within this as ‘to support them as partners every step of the way’.
