Highly respected leader of the team and group general counsel Nathaniel Mangunsong outlined the function’s structure as follows: ‘The legal team consists of those with group functions and product supports. I currently supervise two vice presidents: Muhammad Ali Pasha (vice president legal – strategic and core products) and Denise Lioe (vice president legal and compliance – payment and merchants). Chandra Satar (who was vice president legal – strategic and core products) has transitioned into a business leadership role after successfully leading the recent acquisitions in the company’. Now consisting of 20 individuals, Mangunsong took over the team in 2016 when it had only three other lawyers, which highlights the rate of growth in the company in the past two years. The team has managed to achieve some notable highlights in recent years, as Mangunsong details: ‘We have been in several high profile transactions including rounds of fundraising and acquisitions in the past two years and have won several awards for these. This has included a deal of the year and M&A deal of the year at a prominent legal industry awards ceremony’. The rapid expansion of GO-JEK and the success that has gone along with it can be attributed in no small part to the excellent contribution made by the company’s capable and highly effective in-house legal team.
