Founded over 60 years ago, Alto Broadcasting System – Chronicle Broadcasting Network (ABS-CBN) is the largest multimedia network in the Philippines. The company’s legal team is led by texperienced and trusted general counsel Mario Bautista, who joined in 2011 and is widely considered a ‘leading lawyer’ in multiple practice areas according to a number of sources. Another key member of the team is director of legal services Carissa Agnes Enerio, who joined in 2010 and plays a key role in monitoring corporate compliance of regulatory requirements and facilitating special projects such as incorporation, mergers, acquisitions and corporate re-organisation. Describing the day-to-day activities of the team, one nominator said: ‘The in-house team of ABS-CBN is responsible for the review of material contracts, such as acquisitions and joint venture agreements, in connection with the businesses and operations of ABS-CBN. Additionally, the team provides legal advice to address legal issues in relation to the businesses and operations of ABS-CBN. The team coordinates and liaises with external counsel and business unit heads and functional heads, and monitors the filing and maintenance of corporate and regulatory requirements of ABS-CBN’. Notable recent deals the team have facilitated include the partnership between the company’s publishing subsidiary and MyPhone agreed in 2016 to create a multimedia reading app known as “Noink”, and a separate agreement that year with CityMall Commercial Centers to manage the cinemas of the growing independent community mall chain across the country. In 2017 the ABS-CBN legal team assisted the company to execute a deal with Ayala Malls to launch the “ABS-CBN Vertis Tent”, a tent venue located in the newly opened Ayala Malls Vertis complex in Quezon City.
