General counsel | Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Indonesia

Team size: Five

What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

We are heavily involved in the plastic recycling project, which includes the establishment of IDR50bn joint venture company between Coca-Cola Europacific Partners and Dynapack, the largest plastic packaging company in Southeast Asia and China, and the negotiations to purchase €10m and €6,250,000 plastic recycle machines and equipment from Krones Germany and Starlinger Austria.

How important is choosing to work with external lawyers who align with your company’s values? Are you likely to reconsider what firms you work with based on this?

All of our vendors, including external lawyers, are required to adhere to the same strict ethics and compliance principles required by Coca-Cola Europacific Partners. We require our vendors to sign the code of conduct agreement containing the anti-bribery and anti-corruption clause, which gives us the right to terminate the agreement at any time if the vendors fail to comply. We have the principle of doing the business the right way. Therefore, it is crucial that our vendors are align with our values. Our vendor selection process is based on these principles.

In general, what would you like to see change about the external law firms you use?

Examples of change I would like to see would be greater flexibility in billing, a more expansive suite of services offered, and more transparency in reporting ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) (Environmental, Social and Governance) statistics. We expect to work with external law firms who align with our values, are cost efficient, technically understand our business, are creative to offer alternative solutions without sacrificing the values and are responsive and contactable when needed. In addition, I would like to see more interactions with the external law firms, for example, the introduction of exchange program so as to give the in-house and external lawyers the opportunity to see different perspectives of legal practice, and regular discussions between the in-house and external lawyers to update legal development as well as business challenges.

What are some of the main legislative or regulatory changes that have impacted you?

The Job Creation Law (or known as the Omnibus Law) has impacted our operation because many business permits need to be adjusted. On one hand, there are conveniences in the procedures of obtaining business permits. However, on the other hand we found many challenges in the implementation due to the lack of understanding from the field officers.
