Fiona Edmundson has been working in the South African legal team of Anglo American since 2010. She has held various roles and is currently the head of legal, South Africa, a position she has held since 2020. Fiona has 22 years of corporate law experience, having started her career in private practice in South Africa and then spent several years at Clifford Chance in London.  
 
Since joining Anglo American, Fiona has been responsible for overseeing large M&A and other commercial transactions, as well as managing the legal aspects of the global rollout of Anglo American’s Covid testing laboratories and Anglo American’s broader Covid response.   
 
More recently, Fiona has been actively involved in the launch of Anglo American’s renewable energy program in South Africa and is currently working on several Rule of Law programs. In 2019, under Fiona’s leadership, the South African legal team of Anglo American initiated the South African General Counsel’s Initiative for Diversity and Inclusion. The initiative was formally launched in 2023 by Anglo American Group Legal and a small group of like-minded South African co-founders, including Sasol, Unilever, Total, Standard Bank, Absa, FirstRand Bank, and the Industrial Development Corporation.
