Co-head of the firm’s Africa group, Shawn der Kinderen has worked at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer since 2000, mainly focusing on cross-border M&A deals, joint ventures and private equity matters. A truly multijurisdictional professional, he is particularly adept advising on transactions involving the co-ordination of teams across European and African jurisdictions. Acting for several financial investor clients, his practice ranges across the energy, chemical, consumer product, TMT and financial sectors. Representative experience include advising South African conglomerate Barloworld, on both the sale of its material handling equipment in a number of jurisdictions and on the formation of two agri-focused joint ventures with BayWa in Zambia and South Africa. He also advised Cargill on its joint venture agreement with Archer Daniels Midland Company to provide soybean meal and oil for customers in Egypt.
