Career Biography
Filip Kona is an experienced general counsel with nearly two decades of leadership in major Polish and international organisations. Recognised for his extensive legal expertise, strategic mindset, and ability to navigate complex geopolitical realities, he is valued for aligning legal strategy with long term business goals and supporting sustainable growth across international markets.
He currently serves as general counsel of the Wielton Group, one of Europe’s top three manufacturers of trailers, semi-trailers and rigid bodies. In this role, he oversees legal, compliance, and corporate governance matters across a broad network of subsidiaries in Europe, Africa, and Central Asia. His responsibilities include providing comprehensive legal advice, supervising the in-house legal team, and ensuring consistent governance standards across multiple jurisdictions. Filip works closely with the management board to identify and mitigate legal risks, including those arising from international sanctions, and facilitate effective collaboration between internal and external legal counsel.
Under his leadership, the Group has implemented legal strategies designed to enhance operational efficiency and organisational agility. He advises on internal policy drafting, regulatory compliance, and contract management, tailoring his guidance to the needs of a diverse and expanding international structure. He supports legal risk management and provides clear, practical advice to business units, enabling responsible and well-informed decision making in a dynamic regulatory landscape. His oversight contributes to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, compliance, and accountability within the organisation.
Filip has also played a key role in optimising and restructuring the Group’s legal and organisational framework. He has taken part in legal reviews across multiple subsidiaries, identified areas for improvement, and supported initiatives fostering transparency, resilience, and a shared compliance culture. His efforts have contributed to unifying legal standards and strengthening risk management practices across the Group.
Before joining Wielton, Filip led legal departments in major state-owned companies, including PPL/Baltona Group (The Polish Airports) and the PGNiG Group (The Polish Oil and Gas Company). As head of global legal services, white collar crime counsellor, and legal project manager, he managed international legal projects and teams specialising in complex regulatory, compliance, and investigative matters. At PGNiG, he coordinated, among other initiatives, a significant project involving cross border disputes with entities from the Netherlands and Libya. Prior to this, he worked in the Litigation & Arbitration Department of a leading Polish law firm and ran a private practice focused on litigation, regulatory matters, and corporate advisory.
Respected for his reliability, credibility, and high ethical standards, Filip has served on the boards of subsidiaries in Poland and Germany, where his strategic approach influenced decisions beyond legal affairs. He is a certified compliance officer, mediator, fraud deterrence and anti-corruption specialist, and legal project manager. His professional interests include the evolving role of in-house counsel, effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders, and the future of legal services in international organisations.
Privately, Filip is the co‑head of a patchwork family of eight, where – much like in his professional life – he values cooperation, creativity, and mutual support. An enthusiast of Lego and Star Wars, he also enjoys travelling that combines history, cuisine, sport, and music – experiences he shares enthusiastically with his lively family team.
