What has been the number one challenge that has impacted you over the past year?

Leading a post-pandemic team has not been easy. People have returned to the “new normal”, bringing new customs, fears, ways of working and thinking; the mindset has changed enormously. From the emotional effects of the confinement to going through the new infrastructure and the reduction of spaces, the company had to devise a plan to adapt to the new ways of working, all of which implied a great change.

As a team leader, I could not be left behind, and had to adapt. As a team, we managed to deploy a hybrid work plan, according to the needs of each person, with the commitment to come to the office twice a week and have a legal committee face-to-face every month to avoid losing the sense of belonging in a team.

This also pushed the team to look for ways to work digitally that would help to keep up with business support and look for automated solutions to comply with reporting and avoid manual work. As part of our digital transformation, we launched “Mesa de Partes Virtual”, a project meant to be a cornerstone for company key results.

Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?

I believe that the main challenge in-house lawyers have to face is knowing how to balance artificial intelligence tools with the soft skills that we must have as legal professionals; the ability to use digital tools, without neglecting the humanity of the profession.

It is possible to talk about the robotisation of the profession, but never of the robotisation of the lawyer as a human being, since practicing law implies a sense of justice, social responsibility, empathy, and a spirit of collaboration – qualities that we do not find in AI.

In the same way, it is important to point out that in-house lawyers today have a more strategic role that places us at the forefront as business advisers. We need to have a complete view of our environment. It is not enough to know regulations; we must go one step further.

What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?

Climate change is a concern I have. With great pride, I can confirm that Prosegur was the world’s first security group to sign up to The Climate Pledge initiative, a commitment to achieve a net zero CO2 emission target by 2040, a decade ahead of the Paris Accord goal. In Madrid – cofounded by Amazon and Global Optimism in 2019.

Prosegur and its subsidiary, Prosegur Cash announced their commitment to the initiative, sending an important signal that there is significant and rapidly growing demand for products and services that help to reduce CO2 emissions. With this subscription, the company recognise the urgent action required to protect and revive our planet.
