What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Over the last months we have continued to work on the launch of new funds, as well as on the analysis of new business opportunities. As an asset manager specialising in debt, we have participated in the structuring and execution of various financing transactions and operations. In addition, we have actively participated – together with other market players – in the study of regulations and in the identification of good practices and opportunities that could contribute to the development of the sector.

How do you feel the pandemic has changed the world of work for in-house counsel and the function of the general counsel?

The pandemic has shown that a company’s legal department is perfectly able to fulfill its functions remotely. Technological tools facilitate more effective communication, making remote working beneficial for both the company and its employees. Overall, I believe that the pandemic has accelerated the transition to a hybrid work system, — from now on, certain functions will be performed remotely, and others on-site as needed.

What are some of the key developments – legal, geopolitical or otherwise – that have affected your business over the past year?

Two factors have had the greatest impact on our market in the last year were the pandemic and political uncertainty. These were compounded by the global economic slowdown, exchange rate movements, and rising interest rates. Nonetheless, it is important to note that these circumstances have led to new business ventures, and to focus efforts on the opportunities that have arisen as a result of these adverse situations.

Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?

A fundamental part of our work is based on information management and on the administration of the most relevant legal documentation. The automation of such processes using digital systems and platforms will be key to generating efficiencies that allow in-house lawyers to focus their time on the analysis of legal risks, the mitigation of contingencies, and the elaboration of proposals for regulatory improvement, among other activities of greater relevance to the business.
