Posten Norge - Bring

Team size: 16

Can you briefly explain how the legal team is structured, highlighting key individuals and their role within the department?

The legal team currently counts 15 lawyers and one assistant. The head of the team is Siv Jahr, who has held the position of group general counsel since 2015. Having initially joined the Posten group as a lawyer in 2008 and bringing extensive knowledge and expertise to the organisation. The legal team is divided into two groups, each covering designated areas of law. However, all lawyers may assist with a case irrespective of group affiliation when required or convenient. Furthermore, given that projects may typically give rise to different legal issues, there is a significant degree of cooperation between the groups on a case-by-case basis. Posten-Bring’s legal team comprises lawyers with diversified professional backgrounds. Whereas each lawyer may advise on a broad range of commercial law issues, they can further specialise in certain key legal areas.

What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Following the EU Commission’s 2016 fining of European truck manufacturers for their participation in a long-running price-fixing cartel, Posten-Bring has filed a lawsuit before the Oslo District Courts, having purchased vehicles from cartel members in the past. The lawsuit has given rise to extensive court proceedings, jurisdiction issues and access to evidence. Working closely with external counsel, the legal team continues to be deeply involved in the case.

As the Posten-Bring group comprises many legal entities, developments and changes to the corporate legal structure are frequent. The legal department is involved in most mergers, acquisitions and divestments — such as the recent divestment of Frigoscandia and the purchase of a majority shareholding in the Swedish warehouse company DreamLogistics.

What will be the main focus for the company in the next 12 months and how do you intend to assist with this?

We aim to simplify and increase the value of trade and communication for people and businesses in the Nordic region, offering a complete array of mail and logistic services.

The growth of e-commerce in the last decade has changed the market. Today, the Posten-Bring group is a leading supplier of services dedicated to fulfilling the market’s demand for agile and up-to-date e-commerce solutions. The group’s primary focus in the coming year will be to develop other competitive e-commerce solutions driven by innovation and technology.

As development and changes occur continuously, the legal team must adapt quickly to support novel business initiatives. It will also continue developing and improving the group’s extensive compliance programmes and providing training to relevant staff. Furthermore, the legal team will continue to be engaged in contractual negotiations, litigation and dispute resolution, mergers, acquisitions, sales, and risk management.
