Opera Software is a software company founded in 1995 in Oslo to create open access internet browsers, and today it creates browsers for computers and mobile devices and other apps for a large group of users around the world. A major part of the Norwegian technology scene with operations and subsidiaries worldwide, Opera Software’s legal team is led by Aron McParlan, general counsel, who manages both the legal and security teams of the business. The legal team focuses on compliance issues enabling the company’s strategic growth plans including the contacting and licensing of embedded software, cloud services, and other sales related contractual matters. McParlan and the team also advise the company on its employment and corporate matters and has supported the firm through restructuring and divestiture processes. In July 2018, Opera announced its launch of a built-in crypto wallet into its browser software, an industry first, enabling seamless crypto payments with the hope of making the practise more mainstream across the sector. After releasing its browser on Android devices earlier in 2018, Opera Software has also announced that it will launch its browser software for the Apple iPhone starting in October 2018 – another milestone the company has reached whilst being served by its well-regarded legal department.
