Elkjøp, also known as Elgiganten in Sweden, Denmark and Greenland, as well under different names in other countries including Iceland, Finland and the Faroe Islands, is the largest consumer electronics retailer in the Nordic region, with 400 stores in six countries and 10,000 employees. Founded in 1962, the company is now owned by British giant Dixons Carphone and commanded a company revenue in 2017/2018 of NOK 37.3bn. Elkjøp’s business is ably supported by a compact legal team with lawyers based in Norway, including the company’s head of legal for Northern Europe Magnus Fegth, a previous GC Powerlist inclusion who has spent more than a decade at the company. The legal unit is assisted by Fegth’s experience within the organisation as well as his leadership and expertise across a number of legal, contractual and regulatory affairs that present themselves during the course of Elkjøp’s business and strategic activities. The legal team is responsible for the coordination of the company’s legal responses to important business matters, many of which are innovative in nature and are concerned with the changing nature of the retail business as it looks to implement new operations. One such example includes Elkjøp’s plans to rollout gaming sites in its physical stores in order to cater for the growing e-sports segment of the retail video games market.
