Providing regulatory oversight to one of the busiest and most rapidly expanding aviation sectors in the entire world is no mean feat, with UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) being furnished with a generous budget and advanced facilities to achieve the safe functioning of the UAE’s airspace. This dynamic continues with the legal department which is well-endowed with legal talent, including director of legal affairs Nadia Al Maazmi who has been active in the transport legal sector since 2006. She leads a multi-disciplinary team that has to deal with air navigation regulatory compliance, safety, security and strategic affairs for air travel and oversight of air accident investigations, which requires specialist knowledge as well as individuals who are able to stay abreast of developments across the board. The aviation sector is hugely important for Dubai, as it seeks to take advantage of its location to become the foremost global hub for air transport, and the safe operation of its airspace is thus of strategic importance to the country as a whole.
