The Emirates NBD legal team underwent a major development in 2018, as its highly respected general counsel Lubna Qassim moved on to pastures new. The team she left behind, however, is extremely capable and contains a number of well-regarded legal specialists, and continues to thrive in her absence. Ahmed Thabet heads the advisory function, and was formerly an executive director and legal counsel with the National Bank of Abu Dhabi, while Charles Barwick is responsible for heading the dispute prevention and resolution unit of the function. Radhi Patel, who has been with the bank since 2002, heads compliance for private banking and wealth management. With this level of legal talent available to the team, Emirates NBD legal looks set to thrive in this new chapter.
