ALCAZAR ENERGY

About

The legal department of the renewable energy business Alcazar Energy comprises four professionals working across the company’s offices in Turkey, Jordan and Dubai. The team is currently led by general counsel and company secretary Clint Steyn who joined the company in May 2017 following a three-year tenure as a partner at Bracewell in Dubai. He has since been able to structure the legal team so as to be able to leverage off precedent documents to save time and cost. The resulting gains in efficiency can clearly be seen in the team’s seamless support of the company’s transactional and project work.

Recent projects completed by the team include closing deals related to Alcazar’s extensive wind and photovoltaic facilities scattered across Jordan and Egypt. The team’s support of the company’s four Egypt projects has received particular industry recognition in the form of a Thomson Reuters Project Finance International Award for “Global Multilateral Deal of the Year”. The team has worked on a number of successful acquisition transactions. Six of the seven projects that the team worked on had previously been acquired during the development phase. The team then completed the development of these projects through to financial close. In addition, the team achieved the successful acquisition of the Mersinli project, a wind project under development in Turkey. Besides Clint Steyn who coordinates the efforts of the team across the region, Turkey-based Deniz Saidov has made an impression for his work on the Mersinli acquisition, as well as for his support on the project financings in Egypt. Their colleague Rania Hendawi, based in Jordan, played a key role in the successful implementation of Alcazar Energy’s Jordan projects, particularly dealing with PPA, permitting and land matters. Since recently joining the team from Siemens, Dubai based contracts manager Nils Andresen, plays a key role in construction and operational matters, particularly dealing with construction related claims and disputes.
