Established in 2008, Samena Capital is an investment group focusing on the so-called “SAMENA region” (Subcontinent, Asia, Middle East and North Africa). Based in the Dubai International Finance Centre and with regulated offices located in London and Hong Kong, the group has to cover a vast swathe of the globe with relatively few staff. The legal team is no exception to this and is recognised for managing to provide geographically diverse support with a small number of lawyers led by senior managing director, general counsel and head of compliance Markus Federle. The team has recently implemented a group code of conduct and ethics to help it work more effectively across a number of different jurisdictions and compliance regimes. German-qualified Federle – a member of the Samena’s executive committee – is typically of the cosmopolitan and commercial mind-set across the organisation and has instilled this approach in his wider team, helping to ensure that Samena can continue to exert a global influence that significantly exceeds its size.
