Founded in 2008 to take advantage of Saudi Arabia’s newly liberalised water and power utilities market, Riyadh-based ACWA Power has since expanded to become a key provider of power generation and desalination services in the wider MENA region. The legal team is led by former Allen & Overy projects specialist associate Teegan Lindsay, who now serves as general counsel and vice president of legal for projects at ACWA Power. The legal team has played a large part in helping the company to expand its geographical scope and utilities portfolio by providing critical advice on a number of transformational deals. ACWA Power is a member of the consortium behind the Qurayyah independent power project in Saudi Arabia, the largest independent power project in the world. In 2013 it entered into an agreement to work on the Noor solar programme in Morocco, a challenging project that will see ACWA Power help transform the energy sector in North Africa. More recently it entered into a consortium agreement with Spanish power company TSK to construct new solar power facilities in Dubai, part of a solar park that will help Dubai achieve its target of generating 5% of electricity from renewables by 2030.
