Maya Hardini Abboud started her career as a lawyer at the Beirut Bar in 1998, with a diversified experience. In 2007, she joined Banque Libano-Française’s legal division as a legal consultant, thus specialising in corporate, banking and finance law. In 2013, she was tasked with building up and heading the legal compliance division, whose role is to ensure the bank and its group, spanning over 8 countries, are compliant with all applicable Lebanese, foreign and international laws and regulations. With time, as it was decided to apply a broader perspective to legal compliance than was strictly required by the regulator, the division’s scope of work was widened so to include law and regulations analysis, counseling in various legal and regulatory matters, entities legal and compliance clearances, international laws implementation and monitoring including but not limited to FATCA, the Common Reporting Standard and data privacy, and other compliance checks and audits. This wider approach of her role as a mix of legal and compliance matters made her division a central actor in the global environment of the bank group. She is a member of the management committee, the compliance committee and the subsidiaries committee of the bank.

Since the start of the unprecedented economic and financial crisis that hit Lebanon in 2019, and in parallel with her main responsibilities, Abboud was strongly involved in the challenging crisis management, from counseling to legal case management. She holds out the highest hope to see the banking sector in her country regain prosperity in a sound, healthy and compliant environment.

Abboud holds a Master’s in private law and a professional certificate in mediation from Saint Joseph University in Beirut.
