After graduating from the University of Oxford in 1995, Tsim Wharton embarked upon a private practice career before completing an MBA and taking on an in-house role before finally joining Macsteel International Holdings (MIHBV) in 2007 as the group general counsel. Also serving as a director of MIHBV’s steel trading and shipping subsidiaries, Macsteel International Trading Holdings and MUR Group, Wharton is a key member of MIHBV’s senior staff, having been a central element in developing its company secretarial and corporate governance functions alongside his expert leadership of the legal team. Wharton mentions ‘being part of the company’s ongoing vessel acquisition and financing programme and being an integral member of MIHBV’s deal teams for several major M&A transactions’ as some of his main career highlights. ‘Both of these elements‘, he says, ‘have broadened my legal knowledge and brought me closer to the business’.
