An extremely high performer for Yokogawa Middle East and Africa since joining in 2007, Mahmoud Zedan has been awarded the Yokogawa Award for Outstanding Performance in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2015. His excellent record on a number of major projects and his consistently high achievement in his day-to-day work meant him being made head of legal in 2017. He has big plans for the Yokogawa Middle East and Africa legal team going forward: ‘I plan to hold a “legal kickoff meeting” in my organisation. The attendees will include the CEO, directors and the global head of legal. In it, I’ll introduce my plan on how I’ll make the legal department in synergy with the strategic objectives of the organisation both locally and globally, how I will increase efficiency and how I plan to transform the function to be a leading element of the organisation rather than a purely support function’. This is in line with his own theories on where the in-house legal role is going. ‘Within the coming few years, I see the in-house legal role evolving to be more in the front lines of businesses rather than a support function and an active player in shaping the strategic objectives of their respective organisations’, says Zedan.
