Lorenzo Bruttomesso enjoyed an extremely successful period with Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (Orpic) between 2013 and 2018, signing a number of important strategic agreements on behalf of the company in the process: ‘My time with Orpic was definitely a career highlight’, he says. ‘As well as HR restructuring, growth projects and project financing, a great sense of achievement came with the creation of a new integrated entity and the fact that we undertook three award-winning oil and gas growth projects, all project financed, during my tenure’. After this, Bruttomesso joined Oman LNG, Oman’s sole producer and exporter of liquefied natural gas, where he has had a similar positive impact on the company’s legal capabilities, particularly in his work on creating and implementing a legal and compliance structure and policy. ‘This initiative has led me to focus more on legal compliance related issues and risk mitigation support to an organisation and management and to implement procedures for the organisation to adhere to for the protection of stakeholders’, he explains. ‘I have also fostered an innovative mind-set of being proactive rather than reactive, on the basis that prevention is better than cure when it comes to legal risk’. Bruttomesso is clear as to what personal qualities and skills account for his success: ‘I strive to be a trusted partner, guardian and team member to the organisation, management team and board for legal and compliance support’. Bruttomesso is also assisting a crucial team member in Oman LNG’s new power plant and debottlenecking projects, leading the release of the lenders’ security packages for the paid-up project financing and advising the company’s LNG marketing teams.
