One of the most experienced in-house counsel in the Middle East with an unparalleled knowledge of banking regulations in the region, Dr Soliman Abdel-Meguid began his banking sector career with the Al-Ahli Bank of Kuwait (ABK) in 1982 as the head of legal affairs. He later joined NBK in 2001 as the general counsel and head of legal affairs group until May 2017. During this period, he played a central role in overseeing the legal aspects of numerous high profile debt restructuring cases. Now, Abdel-Meguid is the general counsel to the executive management of NBK. His professional achievements have been recognised by various institutions, and he credits those accomplishments to collaborative efforts with the executive management and the other groups of the Bank. ‘Foresight is important to me’, Abdel-Meguid says. ‘For example, I closely monitor parliamentary debates of draft laws that are relevant to the banking sector and produce in-house views on current developments. In turn, this ensures the NBK and its staff are well prepared to cope with the changing legal environment in Kuwait’, he adds.
