About

The in-house legal team at Procter & Gamble Mexico is made of seven lawyers including Haiko Ledesma Kapellmann, legal Mexico director. Each lawyer handles an area of expertise established based on business needs in key areas: anti-bribery, antitrust, compliance, corporate, support to manufacturing activities, labour, international trade, and privacy. Each also manages the company’s brand portfolio, providing support on the application of regulations applicable to P&G’s diverse product range. In addition, for certain practices, attorneys support the Latin American region on antitrust, I-trade and brand protection matters. External legal counsel are managed by each attorney according to their area of expertise, thus ensuring that their support is properly addressing the business need. The team was revamped to appoint the right resource to manage the right matter according to skills and expertise required to secure proactive advice to the company in order to prevent compliance issues by conducting proactive assessments on main risk areas to identify potential issues and correct them. Each lawyer has identified and corrected potential opportunity areas, allowing the company to operate without compliance risks. Ledesma highlights that, ‘redesign of the legal team was intended to ensure P&G Mexico has the most efficient lawyers performing at their peak to provide creative and cost effective advice which is key to achieving business goals while doing the right thing’. The team has worked on the divestiture of brands and businesses from the portfolio including: Duracell, Wella, Escudo, Camay, including the spinoff of companies to deliver an operative legal entity to the business or brand buyer. It has also participated in the sale of real estate including: the general offices building, Apizaco manufacturing plant, co-generation plant and worked on the split of the Mariscala manufacturing plant as part of the Wella divestiture. Additionally it worked on the major acquisition of the Merck consumer health business and corporate restructure of the group of companies in Mexico. The P&G legal Mexico team is highly capable of managing in-house complex projects demanding technical mastery on different legal matters. It knows how to interact and take advantage of each team member´s expertise to provide holistic in-house support to the company.
