The innovative in-house legal team at Bitso, a Mexican crypto currency trading service company and fintech pioneer in the Mexican market, is led by general counsel Alfonso Monroy. The three member legal team is completed by legal manager Eduardo de los Heros and Luis Rafael Montanaro. Highly adept at the complexities of the crypto currency market and the wider fintech legal industry, the team has been implementing new changes in company practice in reaction to the new fintech law enacted in 2018. Bitso was incorporated in 2014 and the legal team created in 2017. Therefore, despite being a new team it is highly accomplished. Monroy explains the team’s specialism: ‘In Mexico, I can say that the legal team is the most educated team regarding blockchain, smart contracts and cryptocurrency on legal aspects’. Additionally, a nominator has highlighted that Monroy and his team are ‘superb… in the largest cryptocurrency exchange in Mexico [and] highly creative and innovative in this businesses, which has allowed Bitso to grow exponentially in Mexico and the Latin America region. As such, Bitso is spearheading the development of fintech in Mexico and is in constant interaction with regulators and market participants’.
